NC BoS CoC Point-In-Time & Housing Inventory Count

NC BoS CoC PIT/HIC

The Point-in-Time and Housing Inventory Count provides a snapshot of who is experiencing homelessness on a given night and the temporary and permanent housing resources available to meet their needs. This information can be used to plan local homeless assistance systems, tailor programs to meet existing needs, and raise public awareness of homelessness.

The Point-in-Time (PIT) count is a one-day unduplicated count of sheltered and unsheltered homeless individuals and families in the country. The Housing Inventory Count (HIC) is a one-day unduplicated count of all shelter, transitional housing, and permanent housing resources available exclusively for people experiencing homelessness.

PIT Count for People Living Unsheltered

Beginning in 2021, NC BoS CoC shifted away from a one-night unsheltered Point-In-Time Count (PIT) to a year-round effort of connecting households experiencing unsheltered homelessness to the coordinated entry (CE) system. The unsheltered PIT Count is conducted through regional CE systems. Please contact your region’s Unsheltered Access Coordinator or CE Lead for more information on how to support the unsheltered PIT count.
