Description

During the upcoming months, the Homeless Veterans Providers Technical Assistance Center of the North Carolina Governor’s Institute on Substance Abuse is sponsoring a series of free workshops throughout the country. Funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the
Technical Assistance Center focuses its efforts on preparing non-profit organizations and faith- based agencies to apply for the VA Homeless Providers Grant and Per Diem (GPD) Program.

The purpose of the GPD is “to promote the development and provision of supportive housing and/or appropriate supportive services, including innovative approaches to assist homeless veterans in the transition from homelessness and to enable them to live as independently as possible.” The GPD Program provides funding for capital grants (i.e., construction, expansion, and renovation of buildings for new transitional beds and other support services), vans, and per diem only services for homeless veterans.

Two workshops are offered during this training. The Overview to the GPD workshop targets providers that have not yet applied to the Grant and Per Diem Program offered by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Objectives of this workshop are:
  • To increase your awareness of the capital grant and per diem only program opportunities under the VA Homeless Providers Grant and Per Diem (GPD) Program and determine your eligibility
  • To help you determine whether or not you want to apply for the GPD
  • To provide you with the information to complete a grant application

The Developing a Budget Using OMB Circulars workshop targets providers that are preparing an application to the 2011 Grant and Per Diem (GPD) Program. These providers may have attended the overview workshop, have applied for a GPD grant but did not receive funding, or have gotten a start on their 2011 application. Objectives of the budget workshop are:
  • To provide an overview of developing a budget
  • To enhance your skills in developing a budget and completing the federal forms
  • To provide information about other grant opportunities
