Intro

Taking time to reflect and evaluate our work is not something we often give ourselves time to do. In this self-assessment, please spend some time thinking about those you’ve helped with the disability application process, what it’s meant to them and to you, and what we can all do to make the experience and the program even better going forward.

1. Please tell us about the clients you've helped with disability applications using the SOAR process. Did they get approved for benefits? If so, how have those benefits made a difference in their lives since receiving them? If you're still working with them, is it easier now that they have these benefits? When they got their approvals, how did you feel?

2. Sometimes, even using SOAR, clients are denied social security benefits. If any of those you've helped apply for benefits using SOAR methods have been denied, why do you think that happened? What did you learn from that experience? Did you make any changes to insure a different result next time?

3. On a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being "I know very little about the SSI/SSDI application process" and 5 being "I'm an SSI/SSDI expert," where do you think you fall on that scale?

4. What has your experience with your local Social Security Office been like? How has implementation of the new SOAR process (using the fax to set the protective filing date and to find out whether there is an application in process, setting the 60 day clock to gather all necessary documentation, etc.) gone?
