CDC Webinar: Including People Who Are Experiencing Homelessness in Emergency Preparedness Planning
Hosted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this webinar will focus on how homeless-serving organizations can be included in preparedness planning. While homeless service organizations are often needed for emergency response, they are not often "at the table" for emergency preparedness planning. This can lead to missed opportunities for effective outreach to individuals who are experiencing homelessness and missed opportunities for coordinated service delivery. The special needs of homeless persons should be directly addressed in all hazards emergency planning.
The intent of this webinar is to stimulate discussion among audience members about how homeless persons and homeless serving organizations can be better included in emergency preparedness planning. An extended Q&A and discussion period will allow audience members to highlight ongoing activities in their localities and provide the opportunity for potential solutions to be vetted.
Sabrina Edgington, MSSW, Program and Policy Specialist for the National Health Care for the Homeless Council, will present with Marcy Thompson, MSW, Special Needs Assistant Program Specialist, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
